COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Senate has finished its week without taking a vote on the future of state owned utility Santee Cooper.

The proposal is in a place on the Senate calendar where it will have to be dealt with before senators can consider almost any other bill.

Senators debated two hours Thursday before adjourning. Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey says he expects informal discussion over the weekend on changes that could bring the matter to a vote next week. The legislative session ends May 9.

The current bill being debated would have a state agency take bids to buy the utility with the General Assembly evaluating the final offer. But Senate leaders say they will also discuss having someone else manage the utility or changing executives before the final vote.
