Lara Trump, a senior campaign official and President Trump’s daughter-in-law, said Thursday that Germany opening its borders was “one of the worst things that ever happened” to the country.

Ms. Trump, who is married to Eric Trump, and Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney shared praise for the president attempting to “change asylum laws” as video clips were played of a new migrant caravan making its way up through Mexico.

“That videotape reminds me of what happened in Europe. When there was a march across Europe by a million people who wanted to get into Western Europe. [German Chancellor] Angela Merkel let them in. Open borders,” Mr. Varney said.

“It was the downfall of Germany. It was one of the worst things that ever happened to Germany. This president knows that. He’s trying to prevent that from happening here, but Congress has to get it together and do the right thing for the American people,” Ms. Trump responded.

Ms. Trump also criticized Congress for stonewalling action on the southern border, adding migrants “have incentive to try and come here,” and it’s becoming a “major problem.”
