CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak is donating his paycheck to the state’s public schools.
Sisolak’s office said Wednesday the Democratic governor wrote a check to a gift fund for the Nevada Department of Education. Sisolak plans to donate his pay every quarter and his first check Wednesday was for $24,654.79.
The governor says he wants to show his commitment to improving education in the state.
He and First Lady Kathy Sisolak have asked the state Education Department to evenly distribute the money to Title 1 schools, which have higher populations of students from low-income families.
The governor’s office says each school will receive at least a one-time donation of $1,000.
