HONOLULU (AP) - A Honolulu police sergeant is accused of domestic violence.

The department said Wednesday Sgt. Darren Cachola has been charged with misdemeanor abuse of a household member and two counts of harassment.

Police released Cachola from custody after he posted $1,500 bail.

No additional details were available on the allegations.

In 2014, surveillance video from a Waipahu restaurant showed Cachola appearing to pummel a woman. Cachola and the woman said they were horsing around. A grand jury declined to indict him.

An attorney who represented Cachola previously didn’t immediately return a calling seeking comment on the new allegations.

The department says Cachola’s police powers will be removed. Honolulu police have started criminal and administrative investigations.

Chief Susan Ballard says the department is disappointed with the allegations.
