LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Latest on criminal charges against a retired Las Vegas police detective who told authorities she fatally shot her son-in-law while he was visiting his child at her house (all times local):

Relatives of a 32-year-old man slain while visiting his son and estranged wife gasped when a prosecutor told a judge the man was shot 10 times by his former mother-in-law, who is a retired Las Vegas police detective.

Sean Babbitt’s stepfather, Daniel Mandarino, says family members were shocked when prosecutor John Fattig said Tuesday that some of Babbitt’s fingers were severed defending himself from gunfire in the Monday shooting.

The judge ordered 55-year-old Pamela Rene Bordeaux held without bail pending the filing of criminal charges on Thursday. Bordeaux also uses the name Pamela Schoening.

She was represented by a deputy public defender, but told the judge she’s trying to hire a lawyer.

Fattig says Bordeaux will face a murder charge.

Mandarino says Babbitt was shot following a weekly one-hour supervised parental visit with his 4-year-old son.

Authorities in Las Vegas have identified a retired police detective who was arrested after telling investigators she fatally shot her son-in-law while he was visiting his child at her house.

Police said Tuesday that 55-year-old Pamela Rene Schoening was being held at the Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance on a murder charge.

Authorities say Schoening’s daughter and grandchild were upstairs when the shooting happened Monday morning at a home in northwest Las Vegas. They were not injured.

The Clark County coroner has not identified the man who police say was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Schoening was known as Pamela Rene Bordeaux while she was a Las Vegas police officer. She served from December 1993 to May 2017.

The Las Vegas police department says a retired detective from the same force has been arrested in a fatal shooting.

Police didn’t immediately release the retired detective’s name but said she retired two years ago and is accused of fatally shooting her former son-in-law Monday at a home where he had visited his child.

Police say the woman’s daughter was in a bedroom with the child after the visit and that the daughter called 911 after hearing shots.

Lt. Ray Spencer says it’s unclear if there was a physical confrontation before the shooting and he declined to discuss the circumstances that led to the arrest.
