WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut couple has sued a private school they allege expelled their 16-year-old son because of his conservative political views.
The suit filed by Theodore and Sonia Mancini, of West Hartford, alleges breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and defamation. It was first reported by the Connecticut Law Tribune.
The lawsuit says their son, Michael Mancini, was “scrutinized and tormented for his conservative views on subjects, views which he defended with facts.”
The suit seeks monetary damages but also seeks to have their son readmitted to Cheshire Academy.
Cheshire Academy Head of School Julie Anderson said the teen was not expelled because of his politics, but because of “behavior that violated the school’s code of conduct.” She did not provide specifics.
Michael now attends a public high school in West Hartford.
