PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Ethics Commission has voted to open an investigation into Lt. Gov. Dan McKee’s failure to disclose a trip he took to Asia last year.
WPRI-TV reports the commission voted Tuesday. Brandon Bell, former chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Party and current acting general counsel, filed a complaint about the omission.
The commission requires that state officials report out-of-state trips valued at more than $250 and paid for by a foreign government.
WPRI-TV previously reported McKee acknowledged failing to disclose the 2017 trip to Taiwan and amended the form.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, an arm of the Taiwan government, paid $3,500 for the Democrat’s travel, lodging and food expenses on that trip.
McKee’s attorney says they intend to fully cooperate with the commission.
