PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Most of Rhode Island’s top political leaders have released their 2018 tax filings.
The Providence Journal reports that Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo’s returns show her gross income tripled from 2017, thanks to her holdings in Point Judith Capital.
Raimondo placed her holdings in the venture capital firm she co-founded in a blind trust before becoming state treasurer and later governor.
Attorney General Peter Neronha, Treasurer Seth Magaziner and Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea also released filings. Like Raimondo, they are Democrats.
Lt. Gov. Dan McKee is the lone top state-level Democrat withholding filings, citing family privacy.
The state senate recently passed a bill requiring presidential candidates to release federal tax returns to qualify for Rhode Island’s ballot.
At least 17 states are considering similar legislation.
