SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (AP) - South Sioux City in northeastern Nebraska is getting a $2.2 million federal grant for a new 2.5 million-gallon water storage tank.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced the economic development grant this week, saying it will pay for half the cost of the project. The city will pay the other $2.2 million. The Sioux City Journal reports that the city’s share will be paid with utility fees. Construction of the tank in the Roth Industrial Park is expected to begin next spring.
City manager Lance Hedquist says the new water tower will serve both industries in the area and the city’s expanding housing market.
The federal department says the project is expected to create some 145 jobs and generate $145 million in private investment.
