ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) - A laboratory company in Maine plans to hire 300 new workers and to increase its base wages over the next year.

Jackson Laboratory announced Wednesday that it will hire 35 to 40 people at their mouse-breeding facility in Ellsworth, and more than 200 people at their campus in Bar Harbor.

The Bangor Daily News reports that Jackson Laboratory also announced Wednesday that its entry level wage has increased to $15.75 from $15. The training wage will increase to $15.

Jackson Lab plans to bring a total of 350 jobs to Ellsworth and 135 to Bar Harbor by 2028.

The lab uses mice to study human disease and illness and breeds specialty strains of mice for biomedical research around the world.
