LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville has hired Josh Heird as deputy athletic director, returning him to the department where he worked from 2007 to 2016 before spending the past three years at Villanova.

Heird’s hiring is effective May 13 and was approved Friday by Louisville’s trustee board and the Athletics Association. He will be the administrator for men’s basketball, football and baseball and women’s and men’s golf along with providing administrative oversight for championships. Athletic director Vince Tyra said in a news release that “we are excited to once again have his talents reside in Louisville.”

Heird has been Villanova’s senior associate AD and chief athletics operating officer the past year after two as associate AD for internal operations and finance. Before that he was Louisville’s assistant AD for championships and facilities, a stint that included coordinating the 2016 men’s basketball NCAA Tournament regional.
