RENO, Nev. (AP) - The state’s Judicial Selection Commission has recommended three lawyers as candidates to fill a family court judge vacancy in Washoe County, including a county public defender.

Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Gibbons announced Wednesday the nominees are 41-year-old Jennifer Rains of the Washoe County Public Defender’s Office and two Reno lawyers in private practice - 48-year-old Tamatha Schreinert and 59-year-old Sandra Unsworth.

All three have at least 10 years of legal experience. Nine Nevada attorneys applied for the position and participated in public interviews in Las Vegas.

Gov. Steve Sisolak will appoint one of the three nominees to fill the vacancy created by the recent resignation of former Judge David Humke. The new judge will have to win in the general election in November 2020 to retain the seat.
