SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Democrat Dana Balter is seeking a rematch against Republican U.S. Rep. John Katko in upstate New York.

Balter announced her 2020 campaign Tuesday in Syracuse, saying she wants to “finish the job” she started last year, when she lost to Katko by six percentage points.

Balter is a community organizer and former visiting assistant professor at Syracuse University. She says she announced her campaign plans early because she believes there’s little time to waste in pushing back against Republicans in Washington.

Two other Democrats have announced their own campaigns for Katko’s seat. They are Roger Misso and Francis Conole.

Katko, a former federal prosecutor, didn’t respond to questions Tuesday night from Syracuse.com on Balter’s campaign announcement.

New York’s 24th district includes Syracuse and surrounding areas in central New York.
