A lot went wrong for the Golden State Warriors on Monday They became the first team in NBA history to blow a 31-point lead in a playoff game, losing 135-131 to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Making matters worse, the Warriors are worried they’ve lost starting center DeMarcus Cousins for the rest of the playoffs.
Cousins left Monday’s game in the first quarter with a left quad injury and did not return. ESPN reported the Warriors fear Cousins tore his quad.
“There’s a pretty significant quad injury,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “We’ll get an MRI [on Tuesday], but he’s going to be out for — I’ll just say a while because I think it’s unclear right now how long he’ll be out. It’s significant.”
That’s devastating news for Cousins, who worked his way back from a torn Achilles this season. The four-time All-Star center signed a one-year, $5.9 million deal with the Warriors last offseason in hopes to restore his value. Cousins tore his Achilles when he was with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2018.
In the regular season, Cousins averaged 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He appeared in 30 games, returning from injury in January.
