Rep. Bill Pascrell said the number of redactions Attorney General William Barr makes to special counsel Robert Mueller’s report into Russian election meddling will demonstrate the Justice Department’s commitment to transparency
“That will give me an idea, or anyone else an idea, as to what [Mr. Barr] was willing to put forth, so that we know. The public should know this. Democrats and Republicans believe that this report should be made public. And when we say that, we don’t mean every page blacked out,” the New Jersey Democrat said on CNN’s “At This Hour” show.
Mr. Barr is expected to make the redacted report available Thursday.
“I think there’s more here than meets the eye. I think you’re going to be very surprised. Summaries are not intended to be the final note,” he added.
Mr. Pascrell also said he doesn’t want the entire report to be made public but adds “there’s a way to” give the appropriate House committees the information they need for investigations.
“They are not out to get anyone, they are out to hopefully get the facts out to the public,” he said.
Mr. Barr released a four-page summary of the report last month, saying Mr. Mueller did not recommend conspiracy or obstruction charges against Mr. Trump or anyone involved with his campaign.
House Democrats have called for the full, uncensored report to be provided to top congressional officials.
