PHOENIX (AP) - Democrat Mark Kelly has more than $3 million in the bank for his U.S. Senate campaign, about the $1 million more than Republican incumbent Martha McSally.
Campaign finance reports made public this week show Kelly raised $4 million during the first quarter of the year, a strong haul for a first-time candidate. McSally raised $2 million and also has $923,000 carried forward from last year.
The race to finish John McCain’s last term is likely to be one of the most hotly contested and expensive Senate races in the country next year. Last year, McSally and Democrat Kyrsten Sinema each spent more than $20 million on their Senate campaigns.
