President Trump on Monday said Tiger Woods’ victory at The Masters and comeback story was so impressive that he will give him the Medal of Freedom, the U.S.’s highest decoration for civilians.

The decision, announced on Twitter, will put Mr. Woods in the company of the Apollo 13 crew, singer Aretha Franklin, U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Mother Teresa.

Mr. Trump, an avid golfer, was among the first luminaries to congratulate Mr. Woods on Sunday after he won his fifth green jacket since 1997 and first since 2005.

The victory riveted the sports world, given Mr. Woods’ comeback from physical and personal troubles.

“Because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!” Mr. Trump tweeted.
