NEWNAN, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia police officer is jailed following a standoff with SWAT team members who responded to a call about a residential burglary.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports 49-year-old Robert Gray was arrested Sunday after five hours of negotiations with police in Newnan.
Gray is police lieutenant in the Atlanta suburb of East Point. Officials there say he has been placed on administrative leave, and that Gray wasn’t working when the incident occurred.
Police who were called about a burglary around midnight Saturday saw a man later identified as Gray. The man wouldn’t talk to officers but surrendered about five hours later.
Newnan police say the person who lives at the home has a domestic relationship with Gray. It’s unclear whether Gray has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
