The odds have shifted in the Washington Capitals’ favor.

The Capitals are now listed as favorites to win the 2019 Stanley Cup by at least one online sportsbook, due to the Tampa Bay Lightning falling behind in shocking fashion.

The odds-tracking website Sports Betting Dime found that BetOnline.ag listed Washington as the new favorite on April 15, at one point coming in with 5-to-1 odds:

As of this writing, the Capitals are a +525 (21-to-4) favorite on BetOnline.ag, and the New York Islanders — likely Washington’s second-round opponent, now that they’re up 3-0 on the Pittsburgh Penguins — come in second at 7-to-1.

Tampa Bay has slipped to 12-to-1 after entering the Stanley Cup Playoffs as overwhelming favorites to hoist the Cup. With the Columbus Blue Jackets shocking the world and opening up a 3-0 series lead on the Lightning, it’s unclear which team will come out of that side of the playoff bracket for the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Calgary Flames (8-to-1) still have the shortest odds of Western Conference teams. The Penguins, on the brink of elimination, now have the second-longest odds to win the Cup at 40-to-1, which is sure to make many a Capitals fan smile.
