PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A new mayoral portrait is being unveiled at Providence City Hall.
U.S. Rep. David Cicilline, a Rhode Island Democrat, served two terms as mayor of Providence before he was elected to Congress. His official mayoral portrait will be unveiled at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo and current Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza are among the scheduled speakers.
According to event organizers, Cicilline is the first former mayor whose portrait was commissioned by a Latino artist and the first portrait with the mayor depicted outside of City Hall. Cicilline is shown in a neighborhood with the skyline in the distance.
The ceremony is open to the public.
Cicilline was first elected mayor in 2002 and re-elected in 2006.
He’s serving his fifth term representing Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District.
