FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Florida officials have closed an investigation against a sheriff after a woman said he threatened her when she refused to abort a baby she says he fathered.
The News-Press reports that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Friday it won’t charge Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno with threatening Deanna Williams.
She filed a complaint in January, alleging the divorced sheriff threatened her after she refused his abortion request. She said the two had a three-month relationship last year. She told investigators Marceno said she would not be giving birth and “he had people would do almost anything he asked.” The FDLE concluded that did not constitute a threat.
The baby is due soon and the sides have agreed to a paternity test. Marceno declined comment to the newspaper.
