Rep. Dan Crenshaw says Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her allies from New York have reached a “new low” by questioning his respect, reverence, and dedication to 9/11 victims.
The Navy SEAL veteran and Texas Republican told NBC News this week that American culture is in a strange place when politicians can’t be honest about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, Minnesota Democrat, was recently at a banquet for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) when she summarized the terrorist attacks as “some people did something.”
Mr. Crenshaw described the Democrat’s language and delivery as “unreal” and was chastised by Ms. Ocasio-Cortez.
“You refuse to cosponsor the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund, yet have the audacity to drum resentment towards Ilhan w/completely out-of-context quotes,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Thursday. “In 2018, right-wing extremists were behind almost ALL US domestic terrorist killings. Why don’t you go do something about that?”
The Republican responded Friday.
“This week was a new low in partisanship & dishonesty,” he tweeted. “I watched in disbelief as some covered for Omar by coming after me with lies & absurd claims that I don’t support 9/11 victims. What a disgusting, dishonest tactic. Why turn this into a political football?”
Mr. Crenshaw’s tweet also included footage of an interview with NBC News.
“One of the most disappointing things of this entire controversy that I’ve seen is these members from New York, how Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Max Rose, [are] trying to deflect the attention from Omar by attacking me — claiming I’m not for 9/11 first responders,” he told the network.
“This is a really dishonest attack,” he continued. “I’m going to tell you how I’m for 9/11 victims and 9/11 first-responders. I’m the guy who went overseas to make sure this never happened again, to take the fight to the enemy who committed these attacks. I would go back and do it every day if I could, so to say that kind of attack — that is the height of partisanship. I’m really disappointed in them for saying that, especially coming from New York.”
