SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Officials say a $2 billion transit terminal in San Francisco that shut down six weeks after opening last year is on track to be repaired by June, but there is no firm reopening date.
The Transbay Joint Powers Authority operates the Salesforce Transit Center, which opened Aug. 12, 2018 to great fanfare. Officials closed the terminal in September after finding two cracked beams.
Transbay executive director Mark Zabaneh told the authority’s board Thursday that repairs should be finished by June 1 but a reopening date depends on other factors, including how long it takes to get the building ready for the public.
Spokeswoman Christine Falvey says $4 million in repair-related costs have accrued, not including actual construction.
Falvey says an independent lab concluded faulty construction led to the cracks.
