Presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell said Thursday President Trump will put Russia’s interests ahead of America’s own.

Mr. Swalwell, responding to his previous claims during the Mueller investigation that Mr. Trump was an “agent of Russia,” said the president “acts on their behalf, he too often puts their interests, too often, ahead of our own interests.”

“If he wasn’t taking orders, he wouldn’t take the interpreter’s notes. If he wasn’t taking orders, he would release the report that he said he’s 100 percent exonerated with and so why does he act so suspiciously with Russia in ways he doesn’t act with Theresa May or Macron or Trudeau,” the California Democrat said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show.

“All of my experience as a prosecutor tells me something is wrong with the way he’s acting, the way that he’s lying and that we should all be concerned about it,” he continued.

However, Mr. Swalwell said any potential evidence did not meet the standard of “beyond a reasonable doubt” and that’s why no charges have been filed.

The representative joined the crowded race for the Democratic nomination for president on Monday and announcing gun violence as his top campaign issue.

He also announced a plan for a mandatory federal semi-automatic rifle ban and buyback.
