YUBA CITY, Calif. (AP) - Police in Northern California say they used DNA evidence to arrest a suspect in the 2013 killing of a 94-year-old woman who was brutally murdered in her home.

The Sacramento Bee reports that 29-year-old Armando Aryas Cuadras of Yuba City was arrested Wednesday.

Leola Lucille Shreves was killed inside her Yuba City home on January 23, 2013. Her next-door neighbor was imprisoned for nearly 3½ years based on an alleged confession before murder charges were dropped.

The Yuba City Police Department said Wednesday that evidence obtained from the crime scene contained blood from someone other than Shreves, but investigators did not connect it to Cuadras until recently.

Cuadras is being held in the Sutter County Jail without bail. Jail records do not indicate whether Cuadras has an attorney.
