CLEVELAND (AP) - The father of a 4-year-old Ohio girl who authorities say died from abuse by her mother and the mother’s boyfriend has filed a lawsuit accusing county social workers and employees at private day care centers of failing to protect her.
Aniya Day-Garrett died in 2018 after suffering a stroke caused by a blow to the head.
Mickhal Garrett’s wrongful death lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Cleveland against Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County and others. It says county social workers and employees of day care centers in Euclid ignored “clear signs of abuse and neglect” that resulted in Aniya’s death.
Aniya’s mother and her boyfriend were convicted of aggravated murder and sentenced to life in prison.
County spokeswoman Mary Louise Madigan says the complaint will be reviewed and sent to the county council
