The District is ready to rock the red again for another Washington Capitals playoff run, their first chance to defend the title after winning the first Stanley Cup in franchise history a year ago.

The postseason starts Thursday for the Capitals as they kick off their first-round series. Here’s everything you need to know before the puck drops.

Opponent: Carolina Hurricanes (series tied 0-0)

When: Thursday, April 11, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Capital One Arena, Washington, D.C.

TV channel: NBC Sports Washington, USA Network

Radio: 106.7 The Fan

What to watch for: The Capitals swept the Hurricanes, a division rival, in the four times they met in the regular season … Defenseman Michal Kempny (hamstring) is recovering from surgery and will miss the playoffs, meaning recent trade acquisition Nick Jensen stands to have more of a role going forward. Coach Todd Reirden recently said he will continue to shuffle his defensive pairings during games … The Hurricanes haven’t been to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 10 years, but they’re captained by Justin Williams, the former Capital who has won three Stanley Cups with the Hurricanes and Los Angeles Kings.
