4 rescue groups help more than 160 dogs found in Georgia

CONYERS, Ga. (AP) - Several Atlanta area rescue groups are helping to find new homes for more than 160 dogs found in a Georgia home.

Rockdale County deputies, animal control and code enforcement officers received a 911 call Wednesday about possible dog fighting. They found no mistreated animals, but did find 162 of them.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports county spokesman Jorge Diez says a county ordinance restricts the number of pets to five per household. He says the owner voluntarily gave up all but five dogs, none of which were spayed or neutered, which is how so many ended up in the home.

The Society of Humane Friends of Georgia in Lawrenceville, Paws Atlanta, Perfect Pet Rescue of Atlanta and Pregnant Dog Rescue in Griffin all helped pick up nearly all the remaining dogs.
