PHOENIX (AP) - The Latest on freeway closings in Phoenix (all times local):

9:05 a.m.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman says several Phoenix freeways have reopened after being closed for over an hour during the Wednesday morning commute while authorities checked a suspicious item.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves told The Associated Press that a bomb squad “determined the suspicious item was not a threat,” and westbound Interstate 10, southbound State Route 51 and westbound Loop 202 were reopened shortly before 9 a.m.

News video earlier showed a large police presence in the closed area of I-10.

No additional information was immediately available.

Authorities say unspecified police activity at a major freeway interchange in central Phoenix has closed portions of several freeways during the Wednesday morning commute.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the activity at the “Mini-Stack” interchange has closed westbound Interstate 10, southbound State Route 51 and westbound Loop 202 and that there is no estimate when the highways will reopen.

The state Department of Public Safety and the Phoenix Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
