Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s campaign announced Wednesday she has raised a modest $6 million for her presidential bid, falling well behind some of her rivals for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
Roger Lau, Ms. Warren’s campaign manager, said the Massachusetts senator received 213,000 donations from over 135,000 donors, and said she received $1.4 million over the final week of the first fundraising quarter, which ran from Jan. 1 to March 31.
“Grassroots donations are the only reason Elizabeth can keep setting the tone for this race with substance and determination for big structural change,” he said in an email.
The tally is sure to grab some added attention following the $18 million haul from Sen. Bernard Sanders, $12 million from Sen. Kamala Harris and $7 million from Peter Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana.
Ms. Warren entered the race as a favorite of liberal activists, and has tried to build off that reputation by swearing off super PACs and refusing to hold fundraisers solely with wealthy donors.
