BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has traveled to Buffalo to tout the new state budget and discuss the next steps for the city’s Skyway.
During his visit to Buffalo State College on Wednesday, the Democrat discussed his administration’s efforts to revive the region’s economy and highlighted millions of dollars in additional spending on local schools and infrastructure.
Cuomo also delivered an update on plans to remove, replace or reuse the Buffalo Skyway, the bridge spanning the Buffalo River. The aging structure is expensive to maintain and prone to frequent weather-related closures. Critics say it cuts Buffalo off from its Lake Erie waterfront.
On Wednesday Cuomo named the members of a task force formed to study alternatives to the Skyway, and the best reuse of the current structure, possibly as a pedestrian walkway.
