Trent Williams had surgery to remove a tumor on his head — but the Redskins left tackle should be ready for training camp, according to The NFL Network.
The NFL Network reported Monday that doctors were concerned the growth was malignant but added Williams “should be unaffected once he recovers.”
At the NFL scouting combine in February, coach Jay Gruden said Williams had a procedure on his scalp, calling it an “individual thing.”
On Monday, the network added Williams’ teammates feared Williams could initially miss the season. While the Pro Bowl left tackle should be fine by camp, Williams reportedly plans to be very cautious throughout the spring and limit his workload.
Williams appeared in 13 games last season. He missed three games with a thumb injury. He also spent the beginning of the year recovering from knee reconstruction surgery after a torn patellar tendon limited him to 10 games in 2017.
The Redskins lost their backup left tackle this offseason when Ty Nskehe signed with the Buffalo Bills. The team drafted third-rounder Geron Christian in 2018, though he’s recovering from a torn MCL. Recently signed Ereck Flowers has played tackle throughout his career, but the Redskins plan on using him at guard.
