Rep. Katherine Clark said Monday that Democrats are keeping the “pressure on” to obtain special counsel Robert Mueller’s full report following House Democrats announcing plans to subpoena Attorney General William Barr for the report.
“We are not going to just rely on the Barr report, but we need to see the underlying evidence and the full report from Mr. Mueller,” the Massachusetts Democrat said on CNN’s “New Day” show. “time is of the essence and we want to keep the pressure.
She also added House Democrats would be pushing for an unredacted Mueller report, including grand jury information, be given to Congress.
“Grand jury material has been waived in the past, allowing judiciary members to see it,” Ms. Clark said. “We are able to negotiate keeping classified information, grand jury information if necessary, out of the public realm but we have a lot of prior process. We know that this report can be almost entirely put out into the public sphere, and that’s what the American people demand.”
The Democratic-led Judiciary Committee announced a vote Wednesday to issue subpoenas for not only the full Mueller report but the special counsel’s entire investigation.
Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler set a deadline of Tuesday for the full report to be handed over, despite Mr. Barr saying he will not be finished combing through the investigation until later this month.
White House officials said they have not seen the full Mueller report, but President Trump has said the findings show there was no collusion or obstruction and prove his “complete and total exoneration.”
Attorney General William P. Barr released a four-page summary saying Mr. Mueller exonerated Mr. Trump and his campaign of any collusion with Russia but chose to not make a determination on obstruction of justice.
Mr. Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said the evidence of obstruction is not enough to pursue charges.
