NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A veteran police lieutenant in Connecticut has been charged with assaulting his wife and holding her and their three children hostage before surrendering.
New Haven Police said Sunday that 44-year-old Raghue Tennant has been charged with assault, threatening, risk of injury to a minor and unlawful restraint.
SWAT teams responded to Tennant’s New Haven home Thursday for a reported barricaded person. Authorities say Tennant’s wife and children were able to leave the house and Tennant surrendered after asking officers for help.
Police said Tennant assaulted his wife over the course of several days before the standoff. Police said an investigation revealed a “disturbing pattern of domestic abuse” by Tennant.
Tennant has been suspended. He’s been in custody since Thursday and it wasn’t immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
