New quarterback Alex Smith was voted the Washington Redskins’ offensive captain for the 2018 season, the team announced.
Linebacker Mason Foster (defense) and safety Deshazor Everett (special teams) join Smith as Washington’s three captains, starting Sunday in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Left tackle Trent Williams was the Redskins’ offensive captain for the previous seven seasons, though former quarterback Kirk Cousins was a co-captain with Williams at one point.
Everett revealed during training camp that he was named the new special teams captain. He is taking over for Niles Paul, who left in free agency.
But Everett at least has played for the Redskins before 2018. Smith will take his first regular-season snaps for Washington Sunday; the game kicks off at 4:25 Eastern.
