BOSTON (AP) - A large demonstration in Boston has a two-fold goal of seeking action on immigrant rights and climate change.
The “Rally for Safe Jobs, Immigrant Rights, and a Livable Climate” was held Saturday in the East Boston neighborhood.
The event included a march, teach-ins, interactive art pieces and other activities. It was part of a national day of action ahead of California Governor Jerry Brown’s Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco next week.
Boston organizers were expecting some 35 labor, faith, youth, climate, environmental and racial justice groups to participate in Saturday’s event.
Among organizers’ specific demands were ending plans to build a high-voltage electric substation in a flood-prone area of East Boston, which is home to Logan International Airport.
