The Media Research Center, a conservative press watchdog which has long monitored liberal bias in the news media, on Thursday launched MRC TechWatch — a new project dedicated to exposing bias and censorship online by major tech companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube.
Overseeing the new effort: Allen West, a senior fellow at the organization, and Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture for the group. The dedicated project follows an extensive report the center released in April documenting the censorship of conservative voices online by several social media companies.
“Never before have a few companies had the ability to silence the entire conservative movement,” the new watchdog noted in a mission statement. “Now, a handful of tech companies can censor both the people and the ideals of the right through a dangerous combination of computer programs and deliberate censorship. It is the mission of MRC TechWatch to defend conservative speech online and expose efforts by top tech companies and their employees to silence conservative voices with Orwellian speech controls.”
The new project already includes overviews of public polls, research and editorial outreach which support their findings.
