BOSTON (AP) - National Grid workers have held a rally outside an annual Labor Day breakfast that some of the state’s top political figures attended.
WCVB-TV reports workers who are locked out of their jobs amid stalled contract negotiations rallied outside the Greater Boston Labor Council Annual Labor Day Breakfast Monday, one of organized labor’s biggest events in Massachusetts.
The workers say they’re trying to raise awareness of the toll the lockout and the need to address safety concerns on the job.
National Grid has said it would’ve been too dangerous to allow about 1,000 employees to work after their contract expired in late June, after months of unsuccessful negotiations with two locals represented by the United Steel Workers.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who attended the breakfast, says National Grid is putting profits over people.
