ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul is leading a new effort to elect more Democratic women in the state to all levels of government.
The Democrat said Friday that she will contribute time and resources to help female candidates for Congress and the Legislature raise money and mobilize supporters.
Hochul says this year’s election is remarkable for the number of women running for office.
The lieutenant governor hopes to win a second term this November. She faces Republican Julie Killian.
Hochul is the running mate of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, while Killian is running with Cuomo’s opponent this fall, Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro.
