SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The Latest on California bill signings and vetoes (all times local):

California Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that would have let bars in some cities serve alcohol until 4 a.m.

He rejected the legislation Friday because he says it would cause more drunken driving. California lets bars serve alcohol until 2 a.m. Brown says the bill would have added two hours of early morning “mayhem.”

It would have allowed extended hours in nine California cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Brown also vetoed a bill that would have opened the door for parents to give edible marijuana to their children on school grounds to treat medical conditions if permitted by a school board.

Brown said in his veto message that he’s concerned about exposing youth to marijuana and believes the bill is too broad.

Most people under 21 won’t be able to buy guns in California starting next year.

Gov. Jerry Brown announced Friday he signed a bill to prevent people under 21 from buying rifles and other types of firearms. State law already bans people under 21 from buying handguns.

The new law exempts law enforcement, members of the military and people with hunting licenses. It was one of a handful of gun-related bills Brown announced action on Friday.

He also signed a bill to prohibit gun ownership for people who have been hospitalized through an involuntary psychiatric hold for risk of hurting themselves or others twice in one year. That bill would let people ask a court every five years to return their guns.
