House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Friday accused President Trump of trying to “break the #MeToo movement” with a Supreme Court pick like Brett Kavanaugh.

“There are women out there, including my own daughter, who think what the president is trying to do is to break the #MeToo movement — to just say, ’We don’t care what you have to say,’” the California Democrat told reporters at her weekly press conference.

Asked if she agreed with that sentiment, Mrs. Pelosi answered: “Yes, I do.”

“I do, because the lack of respect — well, of course he has his own problems,” she said of Mr. Trump. “I mean, he could be president of the United States with all of the disrespect he has demonstrated against women, and now he’s appointing somebody like [Mr. Kavanaugh].”

Mrs. Pelosi said Mr. Kavanaugh displayed a “lack of temperament” and “lack of dignity” during his testimony Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee that disqualified him from serving on the high court.

“Judge Kavanaugh was doing an imitation of President Trump,” she declared.

Mrs. Pelosi asserted that the Democrats only want to get to the truth of the sexual misconduct allegations against Mr. Kavanaugh and that their motivations are not driven by politics.

“It isn’t for us a political issue,” she said. “It isn’t something that we fan the flame of. We just want them to have the investigation so the integrity of the court is upheld and the respect for the woman making the allegations is there, and that should be in every case.

“For us, it’s so much bigger than politics or elections,” Mrs. Pelosi said. “It’s about America and who we are, and it’s about women coming forward.”
