OPINION:
Hillary Clinton, once the stuff of Democratic Party presidential dreams, has now stumbled into a new gig — the world of television sitcoms, it seems.
She made a surprise appearance on “Murphy Brown.” And badly, by the way. In the awkward sense of the word.
This season’s premiere of the show, which hasn’t run in 20 years, was basically an anti-President Donald Trump fest. So who better to bring up the rear than the voice of anti-Donald Trumpism herself — the very one who coined the term “deplorables”?
Her show character was “Hilary Clinton” with one “l,” and she was playing an applicant for the position of Brown’s assistant. But the jokes were a bit flat, given the seriousness of real-life Clinton’s own scandalous past-slash-present.
“In the job interview,” the Daily Beast wrote, “she touts her previous secretarial experience, serving as one for ’a very large organization …’ (Get it). And, of course, ’I do have some experience with emails.’”
Not funny. Not to conservatives who are sick of seeing Team Clinton thumb collective noses at law and order and the supposed American concept of justice that says no man, no woman is above the law.
And when Brown asks for her contact information to follow up on the interview?
Clinton gives this: “Hilary@youcouldhavehadme.com.
Right. Could have — but didn’t want.
The scene ends in classic Clinton style — with her smirking as the elevator doors close.
Expect more cameo Clinton television appearances to come.
“Clinton,” CNN reported, “will soon be seen on another CBS scripted series. She and former secretaries of state Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell [will] make guest appearances on the upcoming season premiere of ’Madam Secretary,’ playing themselves.”
Great.
With the Clintons and America, it’s truly a ’til death do us part relationship.
