Yale Law School’s Dean Heather Gerken joined on Friday the growing calls for an FBI investigation into sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh before the Senate votes on his nomination to the Supreme Court.

Ms. Gerken released a statement specifically joining the American Bar Association’s request for an FBI investigation.

“Proceeding with the confirmation process without further investigation is not in the best interest of the Court or our profession,” Ms. Gerken wrote.

AVA President Robert Carlson sent a letter late Thursday night to the Senate Judiciary Committee calling for a delay to the nomination proceedings until the FBI conducted an investigation.

“The basic principles that underscore the Senate’s constitutional duty of advice and consent on federal judicial nominees require nothing less than a careful examination of the accusations and facts by the FBI,” he wrote.

Judge Kavanaugh attended Yale University for both undergraduate and law school.

His alma mater canceled classes on Monday so that law students could protest Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination both on campus and in Washington, D.C.
