MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s congressional delegation of Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy, Rep. Peter Welch and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders are calling for President Donald Trump to withdraw Judge Brett Kavanaugh as a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.
The delegation says the number of new sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh merit consideration before a vote is undertaken. WCAX-TV reports Senate leaders have scheduled a committee vote on the nominee as early as Friday.
Leahy on Twitter Wednesday called for President Trump to withdraw Kavanaugh’s name from consideration. Sanders concurred on Twitter, also saying Kavanaugh himself should call for an FBI investigation if believes the allegations are false.
Welch says Kavanaugh should not serve on the Supreme Court.
Kavanaugh has categorically denied all of the allegations against him.
