PHOENIX (AP) - A small group of supporters and opponents of embattled Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh are protesting in front of Sen. Jeff Flake’s office.
About a dozen people held pro-Donald Trump and American nominees on a sidewalk in Phoenix on Thursday, accusing Flake of assisting in a political effort to smear Kavanaugh.
Flake is seen as one of a few Republican senators who are wavering on their support of Kavanaugh, who is accused of a high school age sexual assault.
About a half dozen anti-Kavanaugh demonstrators, dressed in costumes from “The Handmaid’s Tale,” also showed up.
Kavanaugh’s accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, testified for the first time Thursday at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
Republican senators tasked Rachel Mitchell, a Maricopa County prosecutor who has prosecuted sex crimes, with questioning Ford.
