Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Thursday that GOP senators have mistreated Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser by refusing to take her allegations “at face value” and short-circuiting her chance to make her case.

The top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee said the way senators have approached Christine Blasey Ford’s 36-year-old allegations of a sexual assault at a high school party shows the country is still not taking sexual violence seriously.

Ms. Blasey Ford’s allegations have not been corroborated — indeed, the three witnesses she identified have refuted her account — but

“The entire country is watching how we handle these allegations,” the California Democrat said.

She spoke just before the committee heard from Ms. Blasey Ford for the first time.

“This is not a trial for Dr. Ford. It’s a job interview,” Ms. Feinstein said.
