MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The League of Women Voters of Alabama says it has cancelled a candidate forum after Gov. Kay Ivey did not respond to an invitation to participate.

League President Barbara Caddell said Wednesday that the group has withdrawn invitations after not hearing from Ivey.

The group had hoped to host a televised forum with Ivey and challenger Walt Maddox.

Ivey has said there is not a need for a debate because she says Alabamians know her record.

Caddell said she was disappointed the governor “has not displayed any interest in a forum.”

She said the group will work on voter guides as another means of helping voters learn about candidates ahead of the November election.
