After he was demoted on Clemson’s quarterback depth chart, Kelly Bryant told coach Dabo Swinney that he plans to transfer, the Greenville (S.C.) News reported.

True freshman Trevor Lawrence was named the Tigers’ new starter after Swinney gave both Bryant and Lawrence playing time throughout their first four games.

“[The coaches] asked me how I felt about it,” Bryant told the newspaper. “I was like, ’I’m not discrediting Trevor. He’s doing everything asked of him, but on my side of it, I feel like I haven’t done anything to not be the starter. I’ve been here. I’ve waited my turn. I’ve done everything y’all have asked me to do, plus more.’”

Bryant has started Clemson’s past 18 games dating back to the beginning of the 2017 season. He quarterbacked Clemson to the College Football Playoff, the school’s third straight appearance, but Alabama beat the Tigers in the semifinal.

Bryant, a senior, can redo his final year of eligibility at another school next season, under new NCAA transfer guidelines.
