The Senate Judiciary Committee is unlikely to grant Christine Blasey Ford’s request to require Judge Brett Kavanaugh to testify first, a senior Senate staffer told The Washington Times.
The aide told The Washington Times that among the conditions Ms. Blasey Ford requested was a request that other witnesses be subpoenaed to testify for the hearing.
CNN reported that Ms. Ford requested that Judge Kavanaugh, who she accused of sexually assaulting her in high school, face questions about the alleged incident first.
“The committee doesn’t issue subpoenas in the process of considering nominations — that is a nonstarter. Other alleged witnesses have made clear they have no intention of testifying,” the senior staffer told The Times. “It only makes sense for the accused to respond to the charges so Judge Kavanaugh would surely follow Dr. Ford.”
Republican Senators initially set a hearing for both Judge Kavanaugh and Ms. Blasey Ford to address the allegations for Monday.
Her lawyers requested that date be moved to another day next week, possibly Thursday. If the hearing remains set for Monday, Ms. Blasey Ford has until 10 am Friday to submit her statement to the Judiciary Committee.
