The Senate GOP reportedly has a counteroffer for Christine Blasey Ford’s attorneys, who now have until the end of the day on Friday to finalize the terms for her testimony, according to a report from Politico.
A Republican senator told Politico that the Judiciary Committee will hold the hearing on Wednesday instead of Monday. Ms. Blasey Ford’s attorneys had suggested Thursday as a potential new date for the hearing.
The committee will also reject their request to have Judge Brett Kavanaugh testify first, although it “acquiesced” to keeping the two witnesses separate.
GOP judiciary negotiators also did not accept Ms. Blasey Ford’s request to have only senators question her, and instead will have an independent counsel present.
A senior aide told The Washington Times Thursday night that Republicans were considering having an outside lawyer pose questions to avoid having the all-male GOP committee members interrogate Ms. Blasey Ford.
“We’ll do it Wednesday, we expect the accuser before the accused and we do intend to have the counsel do the questioning,” the senator told Politico.
